what is media?: another product of the media?

Oops... honest to blog....media has done it again... or was it youth?

What role does media play on its viewers? Many blame things like the misconception of beauty and the rise of teen pregnancy in movies like Juno and culturally influential characters/celebrities like Britney spears and Paris Hilton. Many would even go to the extreme to say they are the direct representation of our countries youth. Can that really be true. personally I think it's up to the viewers to determine what they learn. Personally, I think that theory is pure speculation. Juno is an awesome movie. I've seen it thousand of times and still haven't got the urge to get pregnant. One of the most infamous celebrities of our generation is Britney Spears. Yeah I admit maybe I have a CD .. or ..all of them(Don't judge me .I'm willing to bet whoever read this entry knew at least three of her songs!!) but that doesn't mean I'm going to shave my head bald and become some punchline to rehab jokes. If anything she motivates me to be the exact opposite.

Right now it seems like twilight is the epitome of every teenage girls obsession. Personally i was plagued victim to the bloodsucking craze myself, wit no regrets. At first i thought that the author did a great job, but then as I progressed to the middle two novels of the series, I found myself looking for motivation to continue. They were annoying and ironically cliche. what bothered me the most was when i asked myself why i was still reading them and why i even started in the first place , the answer was simple, i wanted to fit in with my friend's conversation and be less isolated from the "scope" of events important to the peers of my age bracket. story of my life right?Eventually I finished the series and loved the last book event though I loathed the previous two.

Model of media

Anyone watching this? This is a direct example of a media model. I chose this as a model of media because music and videos are very common mediums my peers and I are constantly in contact with . Artist such as Justin Nozuka ,depend on their audience to decode the messages they send out through various channels such as music videos that broadcast from the internet and television through their music. He has a lot of encoded messages in his songs that usually vary from grief, regret, love, admiration, love, and long distant relationships . He tries to enlighten his audience with the many situations he's gone through and inform them of his past experiences. I also think this is his way of advertising his music to his mass media by showing or playing on his fan's emotions while showing connection to the American core values of conformity, youth, individualism. Each of his songs are popular themes that usually attract younger audience because they make them feel less isolated from society . Being a teen is an awkward age and he tries to make his listeners feel acceptance. He also plays on the core value of youth because his song's messages are are encoded with themes that are universal to proplems that mostly younger people experaince. He's also very attractive so he atracts more fans in ayounger age bracket . The fact that he has been writing since he was twelve also ties in with this value of the efficiency due to the promoting younger talent in america. Justin's backround and singing sound is very different from artist in his genre as well, makig him eligiable to be a value of inividuals as well. He comes from a large family , and has a japanese heritage, making him extremely unique in the entertainment business due the lack of successful asian american soul/pop/blues/R&b singers in the entertainment industry. He brings a soultry emotional feel in voice and tells a story rather than just performing a song for his fans as well. His unique abstract and deep lyrics also force his listeners to think more settin him farther apart from his entertainment peers ,while still ading to his succsess.

this semester I'm learning about media lit and what it is exactly. so far I've learned that media is a way of communicating. there are so many ways of communicating in the world today. it's crazy. whether it's an song from an advertising commercial of that crave for candy bar that has some catchy phrase that makes you want it. it's even the lotion and soap you use. Before I only saw media as the film industry and how cultural the many crazes on shows such as Beverly hills 90210 falsely influence me and the kids my age everyday. but it's so much more......
